BASSOON REEDS
the Desert Rose Professional Bassoon Reed $22
Each reed is handmade to exacting standards using the same cane and design that we use in our professional career. The cane is aged for a minimum of 10 years in order to insure its optimum performance as a finished reed. The reedmaking process, from gouging to finished reed, takes 4 weeks. Minor adjustments to finished reeds involving testing the reed on the bassoon are then made before fulfillment of your order.
We use the Herzberg shape exclusively. This is a time-honored shape and reed design that Mr. Herzberg used throughout his illustrious career as a performer and teacher.
All reeds are tested on a 12,000 and 6,000 series Heckel bassoon before shipping.
the Desert Rose Semi-Finished Bassoon Reed $17
With our semi-finished bassoon reed, the tip is finished using a tip profiler; minimal work
is then needed in the back and sides to create a wonderful-sounding reed.
We use the Herzberg shape exclusively. This is a time-honored shape and reed design
that Mr. Herzberg used throughout his illustrious career as a performer and teacher.
the Desert Rose Professional Bassoon Reed Blank $15
Save yourself money AND time with our Desert Rose professional bassoon reed blank. The blade is unclipped and slightly thicker than a finished reed. Trimming the reed to a playable product will take minimal time.
We use the Herzberg shape exclusively. This is a time-honored shape and reed design that Mr. Herzberg used throughout his illustrious career as a performer and teacher.
BASSOON CANE
Desert Rose gouged, profiled, and shaped cane
(10 pieces) $49.90
We use the Herzberg flat shaper exclusively. This is a time-honored
shape and reed design that Mr. Herzberg used throughout his
illustrious career as a performer and teacher.
Desert Rose Gouged and Profiled Cane
(10 pieces) $45
Our profiling process now focusses on the hard outer surface of the cane tube. A precision bassoon cane profiler removes cane from the top surface in a graduated amount from reed shoulder to tip. Our profilers place a basic “thumbnail” shadow profile to the heart of the reed.
Desert Rose Gouged Cane
(10 pieces) $36
Gouging involves cutting away the inner tube’s organic
material with a precision cane gouger. Your Desert Rose
gouged bassoon cane is shipped with a thickness of .05” to .055" (1.27 to 1.39 millimeters).
Desert Rose Tube Cane $46
Our tube cane is purchased directly from a long-established grower
in France and is aged a minimum of 10 years before being released
to our customers.
This tube cane is sold in packs of 10 tubes which will produce a maximum
of 40 reeds if the tube is split 4 ways or 30 reeds if the tube is split 3 ways.
