(220, 400, or 600 grit)
This sandpaper comes in convenient 2" x 1-3/4" pieces perfect for making
minor adjustments to the tip, blade, and tube of the reed. 220-grit is useful for
dry beveling and rough sanding of a thick reed blank; 400-grit is for overall
sanding of the blade when first starting the trimming process; 600-grit is
for fine-sanding the tip and blade area of a finished reed.
When ordering, please specify 220, 400, or 600 grit.
heat-shrink tubing $1.80
A quick and easy way to "wrap" the tube area of the reed blank.
Simply cut a piece of the tubing to length (based on the length of
your particular reed blank), slip the tubing over the back of the reed
up to the 2nd wire, and hold it over a match or lighter flame while
rotating. The tubing will instantly shrink snugly around the reed
creating a perfect seal; no further wrapping is necessary.
Each order consists of one 12" length of tubing (red color), enough for 18 reeds.
Coil of 21-gauge soft-brass wire $2.25
Have a supply on hand for those times when a wire breaks on your reed. This coil contains
12 feet, enough for 48 reeds.
reedmaking pliers $19
These pliers are perfect for adjusting the shape of the wires
on your reed. You can also use them for tightening the wires as
they become loose over time. The inside area of the jaws are
scored for a tight grip of the reed's wires.
These pliers have built-in wire cutters and are small enough
to fit in your bassoon case!
sanding stick for adjusting reed blades $11
The sanding stick allows you to remove small amounts of cane in specific
places on the blades using a very thin strip of 600-grit sandpaper. The sandpaper is in the form of a belt which can be rotated around the stick.
This allows you to always have a new piece of sandpaper in which to trim.
